Malaysian Deli
About This Spot
Stepping into Malaysian Deli, tucked away on Brockley Road, feels like entering a warmly lit neighborhood haven where the pace slows just enough to savor something special. The space, modest yet inviting, carries an ambiance that’s quietly lively — a blend of intimate chatter, the soft clatter of cutlery, and the comforting aroma of spices weaving through the air. It’s the kind of spot where familiarity grows with every visit, as the friendly staff make you feel less like a guest and more like someone rediscovering a cherished shared meal.
The experience here is distinctly personal, framed by the thoughtful rhythms of a Malaysian kitchen that channels tradition and heart. Plates arrive vibrant and layered, not just with ingredients but with memories — coconut-scented rice, slow-simmered rendang, and freshly toasted roti that invites dipping and sharing. These aren’t mere menu items; they’re bites into stories told at countless family tables, made accessible in this cozy corner of London.
What makes Malaysian Deli stand apart is its quiet promise of authenticity paired with an embracing atmosphere. Whether it’s a bustling weekday evening or a more leisurely weekend meal, there’s a sense of unfolding discovery — from the subtle heat of a sambal sauce to the fresh brightness of lime juice that cuts through the richness. The space itself, intimate and unpretentious, feels less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone’s kitchen, where the focus is on genuine connection rather than culinary showmanship.
For those who appreciate food as a way to connect with place and people, this spot offers a grounded and unhurried joy. It’s a reminder that sometimes the most satisfying experiences come from places that value warmth, authenticity, and a little bit of home, tucked away just around the corner.

Cute interior, many vegan options - I had the blue rice dish and the flavour, presentation and value for money was superb. Would definitely come again to try out more dishes.

Really enjoyed eating here - I thought the Mackerel Sambal was particularly good. Prices were also reasonable, a fairly sizeable one course dinner for 2 came to £35ish total. Lots of fun!

I am Malaysian and have worked as a Malaysian chef in London and Malaysia. This place is amazing, big portions, well priced and most importantly delicious! Very authentic flavour, just like how you’d get in Malaysia. Will definitely visit again, thank you!

What a wonderful gem of a restaurant hidden in Crofton Park. I’ve lived here for years and only recently noticed this restaurant. My friend and I decided to try our luck getting a table when they opened on Sunday night. Luckily for us they managed to squeeze us in. The staff were so friendly and the decor feels like you’ve been invited into a family home and this combination was perfect. I ordered the vegetarian rendang (photo 1) curry and some coconut rice. They were delicious, seasoned perfectly and the portions were really generous. We were both so full when we left that we welcomed the stroll home. They also let you BYOB for £2 which was great as we didn’t have to spend money on expensive alcohol. I also checked the hygiene rating which is a 5 so that’s the icing on the cake. A really great under the radar local Malaysian restaurant - please book and support them as we need businesses like this thriving in the local area. We both said we can’t wait to return!

I previously gave this place 5 stars, and years later I would still do the same. Small and simple menu but the food is good and authentic. I like it.
